Last week our first Supporting Children When a Significant Adult is Dying study day was held to support clinical staff to care for children and young people when an adult family member is dying or has died.

This event was the first of two events - the next one will be held on Monday, 20th October - and was a resounding success.

Approximately 40 colleagues attended . Feedback included:

"This is such a powerful study day. Everybody needs to do it."

"Emotive and powerful, very enjoyable, highly rated."

The study day focused on how to talk to children and what language to use. There were also stalls with support information for attendees to take the information back to their areas of work and share with colleagues.

The event was supported by national and local support services, including: Child Bereavement UK, Ruth Struss Foundation, Martin House and Forget Me Not Hospice. Thank you to all the teams that supported the day.

If you would like to join the next study day in October, please email eolcteam@cht.nhs.uk to book a place.
