Earlier this month, CHFT and construction partner for the new CRH clinical building, Laing O’Rourke, hosted more than 150 suppliers at an engagement event.

The event was all about how businesses, including companies from the local region, can get involved in the new clinical building at CRH, which is due to start construction in 2026.

Colleagues from CHFT and CHS were on hand to talk about how the new clinical building will be significant in providing compassionate care for generations to come. Once completed in 2029 the building will include a new Emergency Department with a dedicated children’s department and eight additional wards.

Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Clinical Lead for the new clinical build, Dr Mark Davies, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people engaged with the work that we have planned. We had some fantastic feedback from those who attended. It will be exciting to see how we work with businesses on this important development, and in turn how we can boost our local economy in the process, and collectively make sure we have a sustainable build for the long-term.”

The design of the new clinical building honours the important heritage of the town and is in keeping with the local area. There are also plans to promote biodiversity in the design, making sure the building is sustainable and environmentally fit for the future.

Laing O’Rourke’s Project Director, Chris Northwood, said: “We had an excellent turnout on the day. We met with lots of suppliers, including many from the local area, who we can now talk to in more detail about the role they might play in supporting us deliver the new building at Calderdale Royal Hospital. Hospitals are an intrinsic part to any community and the construction of this major project is an opportunity for suppliers to secure contracts that boost regional spend and provide sustainable jobs. I’m looking forward to developing relationships with the suppliers we met, and working in partnership with those who are successful in securing the opportunity to support the project during the coming years.”

The supplier engagement day, and the new clinical building, are part of the Foundations for our Future programme, which is the long-term vision of CHFT to transform services in Calderdale and Huddersfield.
