The Fellowship is West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board's award-winning leadership development programme aimed at colleagues from ethnic minority communities who are working within health and care. The programme aims to increase the diversity of our leaders within health and care roles across the area. Twenty individuals have either completed or are currently undertaking the programme since 2020.
The programme’s participants have gone on to have great success. Within six months of completion, nine of the 11 participants in cohort one were either promoted or moved to a job of their choice. Its success was even recognised at the HSJ awards where it won ‘System Leadership Initiative of the Year’ in 2021.
Applications for cohort three open today - Monday 24 April 2023.
There are only 20 places available and places will be allocated proportionally between colleagues working in Bradford District and Craven, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds, and Wakefield District. Applications open on 24 April and close on 16 June 2023. The programme will start in September 2023 and participants will complete the programme by March 2025.
More Information
The programme is split into two distinct parts. The first is a six-month developmental period based solely in fellows' own organisations, and the second is a 12-month project placement for one day a week. Fellows can expect to spend one to two days per month on the development work in the first six months. All workshop elements of the programme should be completed within fellows normal working hours. Throughout the programme fellows will also be able to access high quality learning and development, for example a senior mentor with significant experience within the health and social care sector and a trained coach to personalised support with your development needs.
Eligibility
This programme is open to colleagues from ethnic minority communities currently working in health and care organisations across West Yorkshire. This can include anyone working in NHS organisations, councils, Healthwatch, hospices, charities and the community, voluntary, and social enterprise sector. Those eligible for the programme will usually be looking to progress into their first leadership position.
Executive sponsor
To apply for the programme the potential candidate will firstly need a nomination by an executive sponsor in recognition of leadership potential. These will be assessed by a diverse panel, and colleagues will be informed if they have been successful by 21 July.
