A joint celebration event for the International Day of the Midwife and Nurses’ Day is planned for next month – and we’re asking colleagues to get the young ones they know involved with drawing and short video clips.

The event, for our fabulous nurses, midwives and AHPs will be on Friday 12 May, between 8.30am and 12.30pm at HRI – so watch this space for more about the day.

In the meantime, take a look at this super-cute video that Lead Nurse, Alex Keaskin’s daughter Orlaith, aged 7, recorded for her below. She's proud of mummy Alex because "she makes people better".

We’d like more videos or drawings from your children or loved ones so we can display them on the day and on screensavers during May.

The theme this year is the difference nursing makes – so we'd like you to send us your drawings and videos about how nurses, midwives and AHPs help people, or why they’re proud of them.

Nothing is off the table – so get involved, and get sharing.

Top tips for your quick clip

  • Try and find a quiet (ish) area, as your phone microphone may pick up background noise. It’s best if they can face the window or some light, rather than having their back to a window or light.
  • And before you start recording, ask them: What makes you proud of mummy (or daddy or auntie etc) or how do they help people?
  • It will look much better filmed in landscape mode.
