What better way to start Colleague Appreciation Week, than with this lovely photo of Clinical Educators Honey Castillo and Sarah Kenningley.
Honey, pictured right, tells us how the team have supported her in her new role, the importance of sharing appreciation to others, and how she stays positive every day.
When did you join the trust and where from?
I am an internationally educated nurse from the Philippines. I joined #TeamCHFT in March 2023 as a Scrub Nurse in Theatres at CRH. This March I stepped into a new role within the Clinical Education Team as a Clinical Educator.
What has been your experience since joining the Clinical Education Team and what support have you had?
My experience has been positive and rewarding since joining the team. I was provided with ongoing support through mentorship, regular feedback, access to learning resources and training. The team has been welcoming and collaborative, helping me build confidence, develop new skills, and grow professionally in a supportive environment.
How do you like to show appreciation to others?
I love to show appreciation through genuine words, thoughtful gestures, and personalised messages that reflect gratitude. Whether it’s a kind note, a thank you, or simply taking the time to acknowledge someone’s efforts, I believe small acts of recognition can strengthen relationships, boost morale, and create a positive, supportive environment.
How do you remain positive and show appreciation to yourself?
I stay positive by starting each day with a simple ritual—looking in the mirror and telling myself, “I am amazing.” while wearing a smile. It’s a quick, powerful boost that sets a positive tone for the day. I also take time to reflect on how far I’ve come, celebrate little wins, and practice self-kindness. Acknowledging my progress helps me stay motivated and grateful, reminding me to appreciate myself and stay focused on growth, no matter what the day brings!
Sarah said: “Honey joined the clinical education team in March and has been a ray of sunshine since starting. Her positivity and kindness is infectious and she is a pleasure to work alongside. Honey by name, Honey by nature.”
