Medical Education Co-Ordinator, Sophia Akram, recently donated 15 inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust, raising almost £220 in the process. The charity gives free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair due to cancer or other conditions.
Sophia said: “I have been wanting to cut my hair for a while now and then the idea just came to me that its healthy hair and It would be nice if it could go to good use.
“I’d heard about the Little Princess Trust through someone else who has donated previously. I think it’s a great cause and if my hair could potentially give a child a wig it would feel like I’ve really helped someone.
“I would like to thank everyone who donated towards the big cut – I had lots of lovely support from the Medical Education Team.”
Lead Clinical Skills & Simulation Technician, Caren Reid, said “ We knew Sophia wouldn’t blow her own trumpet, but we are super proud of her and it was a pleasure to help her get as many donations as we could.”
