To mark Earth Day last Tuesday, 22 April, our Environmental Team held CHFT's first ever training session for our brand new Green Champions.

The training aims to help our champions understand why sustainability is important in healthcare and what they can do within their own areas to help contribute to a greener NHS. Topics covered in the training include energy efficiency, waste segregation and net zero.

Transformation Programme Manager, Claire Sibbald, said: "I wanted to become a Green Champion because I am keen to do my bit to look after the planet. I have tried to implement green friendly things at home, so I wanted to see what I could do at work that could make a difference.

"The training was really interesting and I learnt there are a few things that we can all do easily in the workplace - such as recycling cardboard. It doesn't just benefit the environment, but also generates income for CHFT.  I also learned that none of our waste goes to landfill at all, which was reassuring."

A further three training sessions are available throughout this year, please use this form to book onto a session that suits you. The dates on offer are:

  • Tuesday, 24 June 14:00 to 16:00
  • Tuesday, 19 August 13:00 to 15:00
  • Tuesday, 21 October 13:00 to 15:00
