The ICU team have been making pledges for how they will support children, young people, and their families following dedicated training in Adult Last Days of Life/Sudden Unexpected Death.

Julie Mellor, Lead Nurse for Children and Young People, who was a part of delivering the training, said: "It was fantastic to have the opportunity to deliver this training around, the Trust’s Children’s and EOLC strategies, Sudden Unexpected Death In Children (SUDIC), breaking bad news to children whose significant adult is dying or has died. We know communication with children, families and young people on this topic can be challenging and difficult for our colleagues. We covered how to break bad news and the use of the My Forever Box. It is one of our quality priorities for this year, and is very much a part of our End of Life Care and Children and Young People Strategies as a Trust. Thank you to everyone who took part, and pledged to make a difference!"

You can also find attached the 10 Key Tips for use of My Forever Box. If a My Forever Box is used, you should also complete this form to make sure there are boxes available for other families who may need them in the future: https://forms.office.com/e/0mAy8K2vxY

Colleagues from across the MDT team are also welcome to apply for a place on the internal Trust wide study days - running in May and October – please see the flyer below for more information.

Pledges from the training days included:

"To support children and young people as if they were our own."

"My promise to children and young people at CHFT is to treat all children with dignity and respect in the bereavement process. Treating each child as an individual."

"To promote child bereavement UK resources within ICU and in our Trust – proud to make a difference for Children and Young People at CHFT."

"To be honest and open, listen to them and involve them in the care of their loved one."
