A huge well done to the team on the Acute Floor at HRI who have won a Star Award for their work to continue to reduce falls. In January they recorded eight falls, their lowest ever number, and a huge achievement given the acuity and dependency of patients on the ward.

Assistant Director of Nursing for Medical Division, David Britton, said: “The team are very much deserving of this Star Award. They have made a sustained commitment to reducing the number of falls on a ward, which we know can be so debilitating and have a drastic impact on a person’s ability to recover. They have all be committed to screening and assessing for falls.

“It is a massive achievement given the acuity and dependency of patients that we have on our Acute Floor. I know they are a fantastic team, who really reflect our One Culture of Care. We will of course be celebrating with cake!”

The team have continued to reduce the number of falls on the ward through the assessments they carry out for dementia and delirium, falls, Purpose T and MUST.

They have lots of positive feedback about the care received on the ward too. They are also continuing to look after one another through demonstrating One Culture of Care by introducing a wellbeing fridge on the ward for colleagues to use.

OD and ED&I Coordinator, Chloe Goodwin, was at the presentation. She said: "The team told me they were overwhelmed by the fact they were nominated and even more shocked and happy to have won."

Well done to the team!
