Huge congratulations to colleagues on Ward 18, who have marked 370 days being pressure ulcer free.
Their last recorded pressure ulcer was over a year ago, on 25 March 2024. Ward Manager, Gabrielle Sophie Gaukroger, explains how they've done it.
She said: “We have a checklist on the ward that ensures Purpose T (the Pressure Ulcer Risk Primary or Secondary evaluation Tool) is completed every six days, and within six hours of arrival to the ward.
“We brought that in after we had a few deep tissue injury pressure ulcers. We also ensure patients are supplied with air mattresses immediately if needed, which is also identified in the Purpose T.
“I'm very proud of my team and what we have achieved on Ward 18. We never thought we would get to a year without a pressure ulcer. We just strive to do the best for our patients.”
Senior Tissue Viability Nurse, Claire Spence, said: “The team on Ward 18 have also improved in other elements of pressure ulcer quality assurance data, which reflects their commitment to tracking the risks for patients, and is another reason for this phenomenal success – long may it continue!”
