District Nurse, Eva Selway, has won our latest Star Award for the support and kindness she shows her colleagues, which truly reflects our One Culture of Care.

Eva, who is based at the Lower Valley Hub in Brighouse, was nominated by fellow District Nurse, Fearn Portman. Fearn first met Eva a year ago and said that she admired her as much then as she does now.

Fearn said: "If I could sum Eva up in three words it would be compassionate, empathetic and kind. I have worked with her for almost six months, however I met her once when I was a student around a year ago and admired the nurse she was then as much as I do now. I'm proud to be her colleague!

"Eva goes above and beyond to check in with me almost every day regardless of work pressures or the personal plates she has spinning! She always looks out to make sure that, as a newly qualified nurse, I feel supported in the team. She has empowered me to feel confident in my role and during the times I've had the privilege of shadowing her, has always demonstrated outstanding patient care.

"I always feel better for spending time with Eva and can't thank her enough for being a true friend as well as a colleague. She sets the standard for me to aspire to nurse like her and to generally be better though the support she offers and the skills she has taught me.

"I just can't thank her enough, particularly for the support she has given me on snowy days when I've felt overwhelmed. She worked alongside me, walking miles to get to patients, and helped to get as many SOS calls done in the area we could cover! She remained calm and confident with every visit we faced, and was a pleasure to work alongside. It was lovely to see how patients responded to Eva and they all were so grateful of her visit and at ease at times of discomfort and need. Every bit of care she gave was evidence-based and she explained everything in layman's terms for patients to fully understand.

"She deserves this recognition, as a thank you from me alone just isn't enough."
