Last week our stop smoking intervention piloted at HRI ED department was showcased at the Smoking Cessation and Health Conference (SCaH).

The evidence-based project was led and implemented by Kate Frost, Operations Manager, Acute Flow, Resilience and Transformation and is a collaborative project with NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board and Kirklees Council.

Presenting the work at the conference, Kate Heighway, Lead Public Health Midwife, praised and thanked all our tobacco dependency advisers who deliver courageous conversations with patients and visitors to offer them support to quit smoking, including a ‘Swap to Stop’ free vape.

Kate added: “This conference is the ultimate ‘Go See’ in the world of smoking, we came away with up-to-date information, new ideas, new contacts, and a few freebies to share with colleagues.”

SCAH is the only dedicated national event for professionals working in smoking cessation and related services in the UK. It focuses on how to reduce the burden of smoking related death and disease for all sections of the population - Home - SCAH 2025.

This Wednesday is also national no-smoking day which is another opportunity to signpost to quitting support and encourage smokers to make a quit attempt.
