Though they've never met, Matron Rachel Rann, knew Clinical Support Worker, Jodie Choma, was a star. Jodie's dedication helped save a patient's life and has won her our latest Star award.

A recent A&E patient was very poorly whilst waiting in the department at HRI. Jodie listened to her concerns and recognised that she was very unwell. She helped to manage the situation which had quickly escalated and become life-threatening for this patient. Thanks to Jodie's empathy, the patient was able to be treated quickly by colleagues in A&E after the major haemorrhage protocol was triggered.

The patient is now recovering and got in touch to thank Jodie for "being there to listen and show empathy." She has also requested to meet with Jodie once she's recovered, to thank her in person for saving her life. Matron, Rachel Rann, was reviewing the case and noticed that it was Jodie's management of the situation which saved this patient's life and decided to nominate her for a Star award.

After receiving her award, Jodie said: "I'm so shocked to win this award, but really pleased! I was just doing my job."

OD and EDI co-ordinator, Lucy Taylor added: "Jodie's A&E colleagues were there for her Star award presentation, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house."
