It’s National Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Day this coming Friday, 14th March. The day aims to raise the profile of the professions to support recruitment, and showcase the amazing work of Cancer Clinical Specialist Nurses (CNS).
Almost 3.5 million people will be living with cancer in the UK this year, the highest number ever recorded in the UK. Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists are experts in their field, offering a unique blend of skills to provide quality care to patients throughout the cancer experience. They are pivotal in the coordination and delivery of personalised care interventions and offer support physically and emotionally.
Cancer clinical nurse specialists are highly regarded because of their specialist training and education and for choosing to work in an extremely demanding and complex field of healthcare.
Some of our cancer clinical nurse specialists have been sharing what being a CNS means to them to mark #NationalCancerCNSDay:
"It is a privilege to be a CNS as you get to build strong relationships with patients, helping and supporting them through difficult times" – Macmillan Gynaecology Clinical Nurse Specialist, Holly Marshall
"I love being a CNS - building relationships with my patients and making a visible difference to their lives, gives me great satisfaction" – Lead Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialist, Helen Ilsley
“Been a CNS is a special role as we are here to support the patient through their cancer diagnosis and support them through their cancer journey and a very difficult time for them and their loved ones. I like to think we make a difference to them so that they know we are here for them” – Specialist Urology Nurse, Miriam Slade
