To prepare for the construction of the new multi-storey car park at CRH, we need to connect our new electrical substation. This will involve important electrical work to essential and non-essential services at CRH as we switch over to generators. This is similar to the work we carry out each year.
The electrical work will take place on the following dates and times.
- Thursday, 13th March (approx. 03:00 to 05:00) – the whole CRH site (including The Dales)
- Saturday, 15th March (approx. 07:00 to 13:00) – specific areas at CRH only (see below)
- Sunday 16th March (approx. 07:00 to 09:00) - specific areas at CRH only (see below)
On the dates and times above, the power will run on generator.
The electrical power supply at CRH is split into:
- Essential services indicated by red sockets
- Non-essential services indicated by white sockets
Essential services will experience a momentary interruption of power for up to 15 seconds before and after the switch (the same impact as routine generator testing).
Non-essential services will experience loss of power and some lighting during the times stated above.
This means there will be:
- Loss of all non-essential sockets
- White sockets / switches will not work
- Red sockets / switches will work through generators
- There will be emergency lighting
- Equipment which has a UPS working as normal
- Lifts will be out of use whilst the power moves to generator and when reverting to mains (signage will be in place).
Actions for colleagues affected are below to help you prepare:
- Please switch off computers correctly when leaving work before the electrical work happens. Computers must be switched off at the socket; if this does not happen there is a risk that you will lose unsaved work.
- Equans (who are responsible for the work) will visit critical areas such as ED, ICU, CT, and Theatres to ensure colleagues are aware of the planned work and to ensure it is safe and appropriate to carry out the work.
- Please direct all queries on the day to the Help Desk on 4600.
- During the upgrade on Thursday, 13th March (between 03:00 and 05:00), colleagues on ward areas should not to use the POD system for sending samples. Please take samples by hand to Pathology.
- During the upgrade on Thursday, 13th March (between 03:00 and 05:00), please view Point of Care testing results on portable devices.
