We will soon be reaching another milestone in our Foundations for our Future journey as we submit our final design plans to Calderdale Council, as part of a reserved matters planning application, for our new clinical building at CRH.
The reserved matters planning application is a more detailed planning application that includes information about the design and landscaping of buildings which are not covered in the outline planning permission that we already have.
Over the last year, together with our construction partner Laing O’Rourke, we have been progressing our designs for the new clinical building.
More than 100 colleagues and stakeholders have been a part of our extensive engagement and co-design. Our use of innovative immersive technology has provided a 3D model of spaces to give people a feel for the new environment. We have also incorporated themes from patient experience around wayfinding, privacy and dignity, creating an accessible and supportive environment, and ambient noise.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of getting the design to this stage. At the end of this update, you can read more about the feedback people gave, and what we have done to include this in our plans.
The updated plans have been refined to make sure our new clinical building is delivered in a way that maximises our use of space, aligns with our Net Zero Carbon ambitions, and ensures value for money for the NHS.
The detailed design adheres to the principles set out in the Outline Planning Permission. The picture shows a computer-generated image (CGI) of the new building, taken from Godfrey Road.
Once submitted, you will be able to see the detailed plans and technical reports on the Calderdale Council website - Search and comment on planning applications | Calderdale Council
The new clinical building is a key part of the Foundations for our Future programme, which is our long-term vision to transform our services in Calderdale and Huddersfield.
What you told us and what we have done
- Building position. In line with residents’ feedback, the building has been designed to be set back from the road with landscaping providing a natural screen from the roadside. The location of the new Emergency Department will be visible and easy to locate from Godfrey Road.
- Visual appeal. The new building has been designed to be sympathetic to the heritage of the local area with advice and guidance from Historic England.
- Sustainability and local impact. The building will be constructed using Modern Methods of Construction which are more environmentally friendly and will be an all-electric building in line with our commitment to tackling climate change.
- Futureproofing the building. The Trust has worked with an array of specialists to ensure the building is designed with future use in mind.
- Patient experience and usability. We have responded to patient requests to ensure that wayfinding is clear and simple, and that the designs promote privacy and dignity.
