Our latest Parent and Carer Forum covered some important topics, including NHS England's 15 Step Challenge, caring for children and young people (CYP) with asthma, and a taste testing of meals provided on the children's ward.
CYP Respiratory Specialist Nurse, Jenny Grant, gave an interactive discussion about how to care for children and young people with asthma which was very well received by the parents and carers who attended. Matron, Lola Duncan, also presented about care of CYP with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Children's services have recently been working with ISS to provide parents and carers who are staying overnight with their child with hot meals. This is in line with Sophie's Legacy and is also being supported by our Charity. ISS Catering Manager, Sarah-Jane Hewitt, attended the event to provide a taste testing of some of the meals that have been developed. She spent time explaining the process to parents as well as her dedication to support the CYP and family’s food provision project. Parents commented on the good quality, portion size and taste of the food. The cauliflower cheese and the chicken curry were the biggest hits of the day.
CYP Lead Nurse, Julie Mellor, said: "Thank you to all the of presenters who dedicated their time. Listening to the voice of parents and carers really does count."
If you know any parents or carers, or a colleague of CYP who access our services, and who would like to offer suggestions, please email ParentCarerForum@cht.nhs.uk
The next meeting is due to be held on Thursday, 22nd May between 10:00 and 12:00 in the Parentcraft Room at CRH.
