Maintaining clear evacuation routes in our corridors, lift lobbies and escape routes is essential for safeguarding lives in the event of a fire. Keeping these areas clear means that emergency response teams can do their jobs smoothly and effectively, and we can help prevent injuries. We also have a legal obligation to keep these areas clear.

Spare beds can often be left in evacuation routes. These need to be cleaned, and porters need to be notified once they're ready to be moved. Beds shouldn't be left in corridors or lift lobbies unless cleaned and bagged.

If you notice areas are not clear, or if a bed is ready but hasn't been removed, please report to the relevant service desk and our fire officers. Our fire officers are Keith Rawnsley (07867 550 332) and Kumer Zaman (07787 220 282). For waste removal, a job can be logged via the Service Desk.
