Our ED Consultant, Professor Andy Lockey, was last week voted in as the Chair-Elect for the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) – a vote endorsed by 31 European countries.
Andy, who picked up an MBE from King Charles III in his inaugural New Year Honours List in 2023 for his commitment and contribution to resuscitation, was until December the President of Resuscitation Council UK.
Andy said: "It is an enormous privilege to take on this leadership role with the European Resuscitation Council. The experience I have from being president of Resuscitation Council UK will be of value with this role and I look forward to helping to preserve human life by making high quality resuscitation available to all."
The ERC has provided the standard for resuscitation guidelines and training in Europe and beyond since 1989.
CHFT's Executive Medical Director, Neeraj Bhasin, said: “This is well-deserved recognition for among other things, Andy’s work leading the Restart a Heart* initiative since its inception in 2016.
“I’m sure he’ll continue to be a fantastic ambassador and champion in the wider-European community, promoting public awareness, guidelines and training. Inevitably this will lead to better outcomes for patients across a huge geographical footprint.”
*Restart a Heart is run in partnership with Resuscitation Council UK, The British Heart Foundation, St John Ambulance, British Red Cross and the Yorkshire Ambulance service. It has resulted in CPR training becoming mandatory for all children in the UK.
