Four of our fantastic community midwives have won our latest Star Award for working together to keep a vulnerable woman safe during her pregnancy.
Debbie Coward, Romily Powell, Julie Conlin and Kerrie Wood* worked together to support a pregnant woman and her unborn baby who were under their care and in a vulnerable position.
After the shock of winning wore off, Debbie, Romily and Julie said: "This is so nice, to be recognised like this! We think any one of our teams in Maternity could be in this position now, as showing compassionate care is just what we do.
"A big part of the job, and one that we're all really proud of, is helping women in the community access services that find it difficult to do so. We love our jobs as community midwives. Every day is different and you never know what's going to happen. You could go in to do one thing but then be called to a home birth, or anything really!
"Working as a team to support our patients is really important to us. We always know that we have each other. We all want to be here, we all have the same pride in our work and the same goal."
Specialist Midwife, Donna Riley, put in the nomination, and said: "They always show outstanding NHS values of care, respect, dignity, compassion and excellent communication."
