The quick thinking of colleagues treating Huddersfield man John Harley for Sepsis has been praised, as he sent a huge shout-out to colleagues at CHFT on Sara Cox's BBC Radio 2 show last Friday evening (7 February).

John's on the mend, but still comes back to see the nurses twice a week after Sepsis was diagnosed when John got some dirt in a wound at work. He was out of action for months.

He told Sara that the team at Huddersfield and Calderdale were "brilliant" and spotted it was Sepsis really quickly.

What is Sepsis?

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that arises when the body's response to an infection injures its own tissues and organs. Sepsis can lead to shock, multiple organ failure and death, especially if not recognised early and treated promptly.

Last year our policy was updated with the NICE guidance on Sepsis (NG51). It includes recommendations on recognition and early assessment, initial treatment, escalating care, finding, and controlling the source of infection, early monitoring, information and support and training and education.
