Closed Loop Medication Administration (CLMA) will be available for those who administer medications from lunchtime tomorrow, Tuesday 28th January 2025.
During the medication administration process, you will need to:
- Scan patient wristbands after opening the Medication Administration Wizard (MAW), as per the instructions on the screen
- Scan medication packs of tablets and capsules to select the doses that are due now. This removes the need to manually tick the doses.
Scanning of other formulations will begin at a later date.
Note: A visual check of medicines will still be required. View a video tutorial, a quick reference guide and the updated medication administration SOP here.
Why is this change being introduced?
CLMA uses barcode scanning of patient wristbands and medication packs to support confirmation of the Five Rights of medication administration:
- Right patient
- Right medication
- Right dose
- Right route
- Right time
This improves patient safety, releases time to care for patients and protects our colleagues.
In case of problems with scanners or wristband printers, please contact the Service Desk on 01484 (34) 2600.
