There are four weeks left for the public and colleagues to take part in the national public consultation on the regulation of all NHS managers at band 4 and above. The Government are seeking views on proposals to regulate NHS managers, ensuring they follow professional standards and are held to account.

The Department of Health and Social Care is also consulting on whether to introduce a new professional duty of candour on managers and, in addition, make managers accountable for responding to patient safety concerns.

The proposals cover:

1. Regulation that prevents NHS managers with a record of poor performance or misconduct from working in healthcare. 
2. Introduction of a statutory duty of candour which would make NHS managers legally accountable for responding to concerns about patient safety.
3. Hold NHS managers to account when they do not listen to individuals who raise concerns or endanger patient safety. 

The consultation is open until the 18th February 2025 and views are welcomed from colleagues as well as the public.
