During a recent busy overnight shift, two colleagues from our Community Division Out-of-Hours Palliative Care Team sprang into action after being flagged down by a member of the public following a serious road traffic accident.
Specialist Nurse, Jane Senior, and Marie Curie HCA, Kelly Goldthorpe, didn’t hesitate to stop and help. After making sure their own patients would be cared for in the interim, they stayed to support the paramedics and police, providing care until the patient could be transferred to hospital.
Nurse Consultant for Palliative and End of Life Care, Abbie Thompson, said: “Despite being thrown off schedule, Jane and Kelly calmly got changed and returned to work for their full shift, completing 10 patient visits that night. They truly demonstrated our core behaviour of putting people first.
“I wanted to share a huge thank you to them both for their compassionate care and prompt response in what was a critical situation.”
