When Amiodarone 300mg pre-filled syringes are not available, the adult resuscitation boxes may contain Amiodarone ampoules with the necessary equipment to make up a 300mg Amiodarone in 5% glucose solution.

Kit contents:

• 2 x Amiodarone injection 150mg/3ml
• Glucose 5% 100ml
• 10ml syringe
• Needles, filter and green needle

Immediate administration IV/IO routes (e.g. cardiac arrest situations)

1. Using the green needle and 10ml syringe, withdraw 4ml glucose 5% from 100ml bag
2. Take this syringe and exchange for filter needle to draw up the contents of both Amiodarone ampoules creating a 300mg in 10ml solution
3. Agitate to mix
4. Administer

For infusion over time (e.g. peri-arrest situations)

1. Using syringe and filter needle, draw up the contents of both Amiodarone ampoules
2. Change to green needle and inject the contents of the syringe (Amiodarone 300mg in 6ml) into the glucose 5% bag, creating an Amiodarone
3. Agitate to mix
4. Administer as infusion
