Sowerby Bridge couple, Paul and Jane Bottomley, have once again made a generous annual donation to the Macmillan Unit at Calderdale Royal. The couple have so far raised £76,000 for the unit in total - and Paul says his goal is to reach £100,000.

This year they presented a cheque for £4,731, by raffling prizes and hampers throughout the year. The money is used to purchase a variety of different things for the unit, including microwaves, TVs, iPads, chemo trolleys and special cups for the patients to use.

The kind-hearted couple began fundraising for the Unit following Jane's cancer diagnosis in 2012. After 11 years of cancer treatment, Jane was finally given the all-clear last year.

Paul said: "The Macmillan Unit at Calderdale Royal looked after Jane so well, this is just our way of giving back. We are so lucky to have a unit like this on our doorstep, so this is a way to show our appreciation for everything they do."

Roz Allen, Breast Cancer Care Co-ordinator, said: "The kindness of Paul and Jane means so much to us and our patients and helps us to create a lovely atmosphere. When people visit the unit, they always comment on the personal touches for our patients. We are so grateful to the Bottomleys for their generosity, which helps us to provide those extra special touches."
