They’ve not even had their official opening – yet the services at the new Community Rainbow Hub all came together recently to support a patient with three episodes of care in one visit.
The young patient attended their play session with the Rainbow Team and they were pleased to see they'd really come on during their six weeks with the service, and that their parents have grown in confidence.
During the session, their Occupational Therapist, Lesley Smith, joined them to review the youngster. Having assessed them, Lesley felt a new specialised chair was needed. And because of the location of the new Hub in Elland, the team were able to collect the chair from stores. Consequently, the new chair was fitted for the child during the same appointment. Pictured are Paediatric Consultant Venkat Thiyagesh, Clinical Nurse Manager for Children's Outpatient and Rainbow Child Development Services, Katie Booth and Chief Operating Officer, Jonny Hammond.
During the session, the child’s nasogastric tube came out. Because the Children’s Community Nursing team are based upstairs at the new Hub, Sister, Heather Curcio-Rhodes, was able to attend to reinsert it. At the same time, she was able to support mum with some training.
General Manager for Children and Young People’s Services, Elena Gelsthorpe-Hill, said: “This child and their family had three episodes of care at just one appointment, under one roof.
“We would like to thank all colleagues involved in providing such a patient-centred, family-focused, joined-up experience for this family.
“This is the vision of the new Rainbow Community Hub and experiences such as these show what a difference it is making to children, families and teams. This is just the start of what is to come!”
The Community Rainbow Hub will be welcoming patients and their families to the new facility at a grand opening on Thursday 20 April, when Halifax Panthers Wheelchair Rugby League Star, Rob Hawkins, will be their special guest.
