Nominations for staff governor elections have opened today and we have vacancies in two staff groups (see below). We asked Senior Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Sandeep Goyal, pictured on his motorcycle, to give us his background and explain why being a staff governor is important to both him and his peers.

He said: "I graduated from India and then moved to the UK. I have worked in the NHS for about 20 years gaining MRCS and MRCOG qualifications and having experienced the healthcare systems of a few other countries, I feel we should be extremely proud of it. The NHS is one of the most ethical healthcare organisations in the world." Read more from Sandeep:

What is the highlight of your time at CHFT so far?

An important part of my role is to deliver and it’s always a pleasure to do so at CHFT. I can think of a number of highlights and being elected in 2021 as a staff governor to represent the doctors/dentists group was one of them.  But I think the ultimate highlight is yet to come…so watch this space!

The doctors/dentists staff group forms the backbone of the NHS, so it is very important that our  interests/views/suggestions are taken into account at the highest level.

I feel I can passionately and effectively stand up for, express views and be supportive of staff which is why I stood for election.

Can you sum up your role as a Staff Governor in three words?

Staff care, communication, meeting others.

Who is your hero/heroine and why and what did you want to be growing up?

My hero is Prime Minister Modi of India, an exceptional politician and statesman who has excelled India in a very challenging world state. I knew when I was growing up that I wanted to be a doctor who helped the needy so I am effectively living my dream.

When you are not at work, how do you relax?

My time away from work is precious and I love to spend it with my wife and kids who are 9 and 2. I enjoy reading and following politics, current affairs and religion, being a practising Hindu myself.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I am ambidextrous so can write with both hands...I love motorbikes and I can fly a kite!
